FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What materials do you accept at Leaflan?

Entrance to Leaflan from the east.A: Our motto is simple, "If it didn't grow in your yard, it does not go to Leaflan." We accept only organic materials that grow in your yard or garden such as grass clippings, tree limbs no larger than 4" in diameter and cut to four foot lengths, leaves, pine needles, garden growth, and wood chips. We ask that you keep your yard waste free of rocks, paper, cement, painted and treated wood of any kind, and plastic such as pots that plants come in and the plastic labels describing the plants. The reason for keeping your yard waste free of contaminates is that 90% of the finished product is spread back onto the farmland, and the contaminates never break down. Leaflan is not a landfill.

Q: Is there a cost to dispose of yard waste at Leaflan?

A: For City of Beloit, and Town of Beloit residents there is no fee. For other area residents we have a nominal $25 annual fee per household for unlimited disposal. The first time you come to Leaflan you may purchase your sticker and drop off your yard waste at the same time. All stickers are color coded depending on where you live. The license plate number of the vehicle you will use to transport your yard waste is placed on your sticker. The sticker is to be placed on the windshield or dash so we can see it upon your arrival.

Q: I'm a Lawn Contractor. Can I dispose of yard/garden waste at Leaflan?

A: All Commercial Contractors, Lawn Contractors, and Haulers must pay a fee each time they use Leaflan. The fee is determined by the volume of yard waste you bring. Your trailer is measured to determine the amount the fee will be each time. You are then issued a sticker with an assigned number that must be displayed on your vehicle's windshield. You are subject to this fee each time you arrive at Leaflan before you unload.

Q: How should we transport our waste to Leaflan?

A: You may transport your yard waste in paper or plastic bags. If you use plastic, you must dump them out and take the bags back home with you. If you choose to bring yard waste out loose in a truck or trailer, you must have your load covered or tied down - it's a Wisconsin State law.

Our entrance road is long, and can get muddy during rainy periods.Q: Are you open during rainy weather?

A: We only close for electrical storms for your safety. Our facility is a wide-open space in the middle of a field with huge electrical towers close by. Please wait until a storm passes before driving out so you are not inconvenienced. Our site can get quite muddy during rainy weather, so please prepare accordingly.

Q: What do you do with the compost created from all the yard waste?

Our rich compost is for sale for as little as $.50/five gallon pail.A: We sell the compost for $20 per yard. A yard is usually the capacity of a small pickup truck. A yard of compost weighs approximately 800-1000 lbs. We will load your truck or trailer for you. We also sell compost in smaller amounts for as little as $.50 for a five gallon pail full. Please bring your own containers to transport it. We provide the shovels and the pails for measurement.
