ABOUT LEAFLAN

Area residents unload their yard waste at Leaflan Compost CenterJoe began composting on the farm, in part due to a sustainable farming group that he joined in 1989. As a member of this group he had to have a project to demonstrate. After researching composting, Joe knew that this process would be possible, because he had cow manure. All he needed now was a constant source of carbon, such as grass, leaves, and branches.

Signs direct patrons to the correct area for unloading.Joe connected with the Beloit Public Works Department, and as luck would have it, they were considering starting a recycling program. We started a pilot program with the City of Beloit in 1991 to see if it would work. At first we worked exclusively with the city. They would transport the yard waste to our site for composting. In 1995 we began working directly with the public. Residents bring out their yard waste and drop it off in the designated areas.

We started small, and have grown steadily ever since. We are now serving the residents of the City of Beloit, Town of Beloit, Rockton, Roscoe, South Beloit, and areas of Northern Winnebago and Boone Counties that choose not to burn or cannot burn their yard waste.

All are welcome at Leaflan!

A sign and banner flags clearly mark the entrance to Leaflan Compost Center. When we are open there is always someone there to help you or answer any questions about how the process works at Leaflan.

After 16 years of serving the Stateline Community we have the whole process down to a well-organized operation.

Our motto is simple, "If it didn't grow in your yard, it does not go to Leaflan."
